Farmers of Tomorrow: Generation Z’s Future in Agriculture

Osborn Barr set out to better understand how the next generation views farming/ranching and capture a glimpse into where the future of agriculture is headed. You’ll walk through this initial qualitative research that begins to analyze the gap in attitudes, perceptions and intentions between “Gen Z” (Generation Z 18-to 22-years-olds with an immediate family member farming operation) and “BoomXY” (Baby Boomer, Generation X and millennial farmers age 28 to 74).

As the next generation of farmers/ranchers prepares to take over, there are many challenges and opportunities on the horizon for the agriculture industry.

NAMA Webinar: Can Agriculture Win the Battle of Misinformation?

Written by NAMA on Tuesday, December 4, 2018 , 2:17 pm

Can Agriculture Win the Battle of Misinformation?

Modern consumers are increasingly interested in how their food is grown and raised, and they are seeking out information about farming online. But agriculture has a quiet voice on social media compared to opposing voices. Only four to five thousand agriculturalists on social media post at least three times per month about food and agriculture issues.

Without an active agricultural community on social media, consumers are learning about farming from influencers, celebrities and activists who are unsupportive or potentially uninformed about modern agricultural practices. Allison Garriga, Vice President of Marketing & Strategy at U.S. Farmers & Ranchers Alliance, will present research showing that in 2017, only 34% of consumers strongly trust farmers and ranchers in the United States.

NAMA Webinar: Understanding Sustainability – New Realities for Production Agriculture

Written by NAMA on Thursday, November 1, 2018 , 9:40 am

Understanding Sustainability – New Realities for Production Agriculture

Today’s food consumers are more interested in the source of their food. They read about food, discuss food with their peers and consider every ingredient before they make a purchase. They want to be assured that the food they are buying and feeding to their children is safe, nutritious, fresh and sustainably sourced.

Marty Wolske, Director of Business Development at New Leader, will conduct a focused discussion on how this new reality is causing major disruption in the food supply chain and how the largest food, retail and ag companies in the world are responding.
