Can Agriculture Win the Battle of Misinformation?

Modern consumers are increasingly interested in how their food is grown and raised, and they are seeking out information about farming online. But agriculture has a quiet voice on social media compared to opposing voices. Only four to five thousand agriculturalists on social media post at least three times per month about food and agriculture issues.

Without an active agricultural community on social media, consumers are learning about farming from influencers, celebrities and activists who are unsupportive or potentially uninformed about modern agricultural practices. Allison Garriga, Vice President of Marketing & Strategy at U.S. Farmers & Ranchers Alliance, will present research showing that in 2017, only 34% of consumers strongly trust farmers and ranchers in the United States.
