Midsouth NAMA Tours Meddlesome Brewery

Written by NAMA on Wednesday, May 29, 2019 , 5:36 pm

Mid-South NAMA members gathered at Meddlesome Brewing Company in Cordova, TN to get a taste of the local craft beer scene. Meddlesome was the vision of two entrepreneurs to create their own brewing company that embodies the spirit of Memphis. We met with co-owner, Richie Esquivel, and a local farmer to learn about their relationship. Richie didn’t want to waste the grain from the brewing process, so he posted an ad on Craigslist looking for a local farmer to pick up the grain for free. That’s how the relationship began with local farmer, Jarvis. He has now substituted 30% of his cattle’s feed with grain from the brewery. Eight members of our chapter enjoyed learning about the brewing process and getting a taste of Memphis craft beer.

North Central NAMA Lunch & Learn

Written by NAMA on Wednesday, May 29, 2019 , 5:36 pm

On May 9th, 2019 the North Central NAMA hosted its annual golf event at Topgolf in Brooklyn Center, Minnesota. The 55 attendees enjoyed a lunch and learn session with Dave Ladd followed by some networking around the tee. David is the founder of RDL & Associates, LLC. David assists clients seeking solutions to public policy issues, strategic communications, and grass roots engagement. Dave was able to give the outlook on the hemp industry and what it means since the passing of the farm bill.

Topgolf offered a great environment for attendees to network and make connections. The change from a traditional golf outing to Topgolf was definitely a success. It offered the opportunity for avid golfers to show off their swing and new golfers a great opportunity to learn the sport. We were excited to change things up and to have such a successful event.

NAMA Webinar: A New Meaning for “AI” in Agriculture

Written by NAMA on Wednesday, May 8, 2019 , 12:14 pm

Agriculture and technology have always gone hand in hand.  The next era of technology and agriculture is moving into places like Artificial Intelligence (AI) and it’s going to touch all industry sectors – from production to processing, all the way to consumption. This case study takes a snapshot of the world of AI – from both the critic and supporter perspective – and how its applications continue to transform the agriculture industry.

Join Mike Garrison and Joel Erb, from Padilla, as they delve into this subject. Key points they’ll address:

  • AI is abstract and viewed by many as “evil.” But when utilized and managed correctly, AI provides insights that agriculture needs to produce more, and create trust between a farmer and a consumer.
  • Companies must understand the value of trust before investing heavily into AI to manage consumer data.
  • It’s not whether but when to apply AI, and how to apply it.

Date:  Wednesday, May 15
Time: 2:00 p.m. Central
Cost: Members: $40 Non-Members: $50
